Dr. Allen H. Chin

Dr. Allen H. Chin, ODDr. Allen H. Chin has been providing eye health and vision care for over thirty years in Southwest Houston. He graduated from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 1975 and opened a practice just outside of Sharpstown Mall. As Dr. Chin established himself as one of the premier contact lens practitioners in Houston, his office space could not accommodate for his increasing patient base. In 1984, Dr. Chin moved his practice down Bellaire Blvd., to its current location where all aspects of ocular health care are practiced. Dr. Chin is a Fellow of the International Orthokeratology Society and serves as adjunct faculty for the New England College of Optometry. Dr. Chin also remains active in the American Optometric Association and Texas Optometric Association.

Certified Contact Lens Specialist: Dr. Chin has been acknowledged as a contact lens expert from as early as 1975 when he received the Outstanding Contact Lens Clinician Award and the Outstanding Contact Lens Research Award from the University of Houston College of Optometry.  His reputation and clinical experience have gained the referrals and trust of ophthalmologists, optometrists, and medical clinics around the city of Houston.  Noted areas of expertise include the treatment of distortions of the cornea from previous surgeries and injuries or dystrophies, such as keratoconus. Dr. Chin is also one of the leading practitioners in the custom design of multifocal lenses for the rising baby boomer generation.

A Pioneer in Orthokeratology: Eyecare practioners now offer orthokeratology services, however most doctors only take weekend courses on the basics of fitting orthokeratology lenses and only have a few years experience. Dr. Chin started designing orthokeratology lenses in 1980. He has lectured nationally to other doctors on the safety and efficacy of night wear retainer lenses as early as 1995 at the National Eye Research Foundation Congress in San Diego.

Recent Clinical Research: Dr. Chin completed a clinical evaluation of a new hybrid contact lens designed for the treatment of advanced keratoconus for the SynergEyes contact lens company in the Spring of 2009. His beta site study data provided input for design modifications for the next generation Clearkone Keratoconus Hybrid Lens (released to Eyecare practitioners in the fall of 2009). In addition, Lifetime Eyecare participated in a study for the new Duette Multifocal which was released in 2011.

Recent Professional Presentation: Dr. Chin was a speaker at the International Keratoconus Symposium held in Las Vegas, NV in 2007. He presented a paper on the fitting of complex keratoconus eyes with quadrant specific, back surface peripheral curves on custom gas-permeable contact lenses.
